The Ergobaby Aerloom is a first-of-its-kind baby carrier that is made to move, stretch and fit your daily life. It utilizes FormaKnit technology developed on large scale knitting machines that allow the carrier to 3D knit shape into the carrier without introducing new seam lines and reducing bulk. This technology allows us to add stretch and support in specific areas creating a unique and custom fit. We were also able to seamlessly integrate knit mesh areas creating built-in airflow for maximum breathability. Each panel is created individually from spools of yarns giving it the ability to have unique textures and colorways that impossible to achieve with traditional cut and sew carriers.

Create a baby carrier that is lightweight and breathable, better for the environment and offers a unique aesthetic while not compromising on quality, fit and function.
ROLE - Lead Designer
Development was a massive component of this project. We were the first ones to apply this knit technology to a baby carrier which meant we had nothing to reference other than sneakers which are a much simpler product. We had to spend a lot of time with our factory partners learning as much as we could about the knitting process and how to apply it to our design. What we had to learn included: engineering, different yarn properties, color application, integrating 3D shape and textures, finishing processes etc. We then went through a long process of consumer fittings and color development until we achieved our final Aerloom design.
The Aerloom carrier was the recipient of a 2021 iF Design Award in the baby product category.
