Ergobaby Aerloom is a first-of-its-kind baby carrier designed to move, stretch, and flex with modern parenthood. Made using FormaKnit™ technology engineered on advanced 3D knitting machines. Aerloom eliminates unnecessary seams and bulk while delivering targeted stretch, support, and airflow where it matters most. Each panel is knit individually from spools of yarn, allowing for unique textures, colorways, and breathability that traditional cut-and-sew methods can’t replicate. The result is a carrier that feels custom-fit, lightweight, and effortlessly wearable.
BRIEF: Design a lightweight, breathable baby carrier that blends sustainability and distinctive aesthetics—without compromising on ergonomic fit, durability, or everyday functionality.
ROLE: Lead Designer
DESIGN AWARDS: “We are very proud that our innovative Aerloom baby carrier prevailed among almost 1,000 products in front of 98 design experts and was chosen as one of the best designs in 2021. The idea for the product, the shape, the functions, the innovation, and the influence that the sustainable Aerloom baby carrier has for Ergobaby, parents, society and our planet were particularly convincing.” - Erogbaby.com
Development was a massive component of this project. We were the first ones to apply this knit technology to a baby carrier which meant we had nothing to reference other than sneakers which are a much simpler product. We had to spend a lot of time with our factory partners learning as much as we could about the knitting process and how to apply it to our design. What we had to learn included: engineering, different yarn properties, color application, integrating 3D shape and textures, finishing processes etc. We then went through a long process of consumer fittings and color development until we achieved our final Aerloom design.
The Aerloom carrier was the recipient of a 2021 iF Design Award in the baby product category.
